I began Weight Watchers in July 23, 2018 at a weight of 211 lbs, I am 5’6” and 45 years old. A mother of 2, they are 21 and 17 years old. I have always been active in sports, but I have a love of food as well. I joined Weight Watchers as a way to be held accountable as well as relearn portion control. By mid September I felt I had a good grasp on the eating part and was ready to include more exercise. I had never enjoyed weight training, I was more interested in cardio. I had run some 5 km races, a 1/2 marathon and a full marathon but that was 7 years ago! After running the marathon I had let myself go and packed on the weight.
After talking with Kristine about weight loss, and muscle building I decided to give it a shot. That was mid September. She sent me a couple programs to start with, I won’t lie, they were hard for the first couple weeks. I aimed to complete them 3x a week. Some I couldn’t complete the full reps, however I pushed on with a mini goal of being able to complete the reps she had set out. Once I accomplished that, I realized it was becoming easier as I became stronger. That’s when she sent me some new exercises to keep challenging myself. Fast forward 4 months, I have lost 45 lbs to date, many inches (although I didn’t take measurements right away), I have went from a bulging size 16 pant and XL shirts to a size 8 pant (I haven’t been that size since before I had my daughter, ironically I bought my first pair of size 8 jeans on her 21st birthday!) and size medium shirt.
Even though I have been active through sports I have never had definition in my muscles. At 45 years old I am starting to see that for the first time. I am not where I want to be yet, however instead of focusing on what the scale says my goal is to be strong and fit. This is not a before and after, this is a before and during. I have made many lifestyle changes, but the biggest change has been that I have fallen in love with weight training.
Working out and getting in shape is hard, but being overweight and out of shape is harder. I winded easily, I was always tired, and my body was sluggish at best. I have chosen my hard! I have a lot of living to do, I need my body to keep up 🙂
